Our short film Suck It Up is a gothic romance about a young woman who falls for a charming vampire. It is a story about obsession, control, and the danger of idealising toxic love. Meet the crew.
We are a passionate team of third-year Film and Television students at the University of York, united by our love for creative, ambitious storytelling. Having worked closely together throughout our degree, we’ve built a strong collaborative energy and a shared vision for making films that feel fresh and meaningful.
As an all-female crew, we deeply understand our target audience and the kinds of stories that resonate with young women. With Suck It Up, we’re excited to dive into the vampire genre we grew up loving, while also challenging and exposing the strange, outdated tropes that come with it. We’re committed, creative, and ready to bring this gothic romance to life.
How your donation will be used
Locations - £800:
To bring our gothic vision to life, we plan to film in atmospheric and haunting spaces around York - think old churches, creepy alleyways, and more. These location fees will help us secure settings that reinforce the dark, romantic tone.
Production design - £600:
Production design is at the heart of our film’s aesthetic. Your funding will go into costume, props, and set pieces, from blood effects and gothic makeup to coffins and vintage furniture, so we can fully transport our audience.
Travel/accommodation - £400:
We want to make sure our talented cast and crew are well looked after. This portion of the budget will cover travel between locations in York (and potentially nearby areas) and accommodation when needed.
Catering - £350:
Filming days are demanding. With this money, we’ll provide healthy, nutritious meals for everyone on set, giving the cast and crew the fuel they need to stay focused, happy, and collaborative.
Contingencies - £250:
Unplanned costs are part of any shoot (weather delays, extra props, small reshoots). We’re setting aside this money to handle last-minute challenges so the production stays on track, without compromising the quality of our film.
Festivals fees - £100:
If we meet our budget, we’d love to submit Suck It Up to film festivals around York. These funds will cover entry fees so we can share our film with broader audiences.What rewards can you earn in return?
