A short summary of my project

I'm doing the Great York Walk which is 25 miles around the city of York to raise money to support mental health research at the University of York. The walk is part of the University's York Unlimited campaign.

Why is this important to me

I lost a close friend to suicide. He suffered from bipolar disorder and I watched him suffer, not just with his mental health, but with the treatments he was given to manage his condition.  Mental health research is woefully underfunded when compared to other areas of health research, I want to help redress this balance.

Please sponsor me, I'm looking to raise £500, any amount will help !

About Mentally Fit York

Mental ill-health doesn't discriminate and whether we're experts in mental health or not, we should all be able to feel safe and supported in talking to each other about our mental health.

Your support will be used to fund initiatives such as mental health first aid, as well as research projects looking to further our understanding of mental health issues and the barriers to accessing support services.

Your support may also go towards providing Mental Health Nursing Scholarships, helping to ensure that the NHS is equipped to deal with the increased demand for mental healthcare as we start to become more comfortable in including discussions of mental health when we talk about our health and wellbeing in our communities.
