Our Documentary
We need your help to raise our target of £2,500 to create our documentary, Slither! about the life of Roy Jay, a comedian whose existence is now being questioned by conspiracy theorists questioning if he is in fact the creation of artificial intelligence, AI. Help us uncover the truth!
“This project began at the dinner table about AI with my dad. He showed me a viral clip of a bizarre comedian whose movements felt too strange to be real. I was convinced it was AI-generated. But as we dug deeper, we found hundreds of conspiracy theories, old recordings, and an Internet split in half, not knowing if he was real or fiction… We were shocked when we discovered that my uncle not only knew Roy, but formed a double act with him in Benidorm and cared for him during the last years of his life.
Why you should care
Roy Jay’s story has never been told before on film, and it's increasingly pertinent to today’s fast-moving society: A.I, internet conspiracy and the fragility of fame. Roy’s story is profound and can be viewed from a wide range of perspectives, from the mystery of a famous comic to the tragic story of one man and his struggles
There has never been a better time to share this story of a real icon who slithered out of obscurity and towards the end of his life, fell back into it. Even in the modern day with its ever-present news cycle, which celebrity do we all know that could be turned into the next AI conspiracy? Roy Jay’s story deserves to be told, and with your help, we can finally uncover the truth.
Where will the money go?
- Contingency - Things go wrong, and we need to be prepared, especially when working with external contributors and locations, so by having this contingency plan, we can prepare for any unexpected costs.
- Music Licensing - Roy produced his own music and we need this to capture his character and story, however buying sync licenses can be very expensive.
- Food - Documentary making is hard work and we need to fuel up during shoots, as well as offer our contributors any refreshments they’ll be needing.
- Locations - We need to make sure the settings and areas we film in are best to tell our story, and sometimes this comes at a rental cost.
- Travel - As our contributors will be giving up their time to take part, we must ensure we can cover their transport costs, as well as our own if we need to access locations that were important to Roy's life.
- Marketing - We’ll need to cover our rewards for those who donate, as well as produce posters and leaflets to spread the word far and wide to source potential contributors and donors. Separately, we’re hoping this film can be entered into festivals, which typically require entrance fees.
- Tech Minutiae - we’ll need to fund our own storage and batteries for keeping what we shoot and powering our kit.
