A short summary of our project
We are aiming to raise £500 to fund transport to kabaddi tournaments! This will give our players the chance to play more tournaments and develop their skills.
⚡ BIG NEWS: The first £250 donated to this page will be MATCHED pound-for-pound by YuFund. Your £10 becomes £20, and your £25 becomes £50 at no extra cost to you!
Who are we?
The UoY Kabaddi Club is a diverse club, built completely by students, that brings together players of all abilities to play Kabaddi, a sport that can be described as a combination of tag rugby, wrestling and British Bulldog. Kabaddi is a fast-growing sport that originates from South Asia but is now played around the globe with the World Cup being held in the UK last year – the first time it has been held outside of Asia! At the UoY Kabaddi Club we aim to share the fun and growth of this sport within our community.
our story
The UoY Kabaddi Club was set up 3 years ago by a very small number of people but has been growing ever since.
Most recently, the men’s team placed 2nd in the NHSF Northern Zone vs Central Zone tournament in November, claiming their first silver medals!
In the past year, the club has also built a women’s team, which has grown from 3 girls to a team of 14 in the past 7 months. Our women’s team claimed their first bronze medals in the King’s Shield tournament in December. This was a massive achievement for a team that had only been training together for 3 months!
Our players have gone above and beyond by competing in the World Cup 2025 and playing in the Gl-PKL in India which is one of the highest Kabaddi leagues.
We aim to give our players more chances to play and develop their skills. This money will give us the opportunity to attend more tournaments and bring more recognition to the sport in the North.
Where will the money go?
We are raising £500 to ensure our 30+ members can compete without financial barriers.
- Sourcing transport for players - 70% of the money raised will help fund train tickets
- Reimbursing transport - 30% of the money raised will help fund fuel costs
- Future-Proofing: Any surplus will go toward a "New Player Fund" for the 26/27 season to keep Kabaddi accessible to everyone.
