A short summary of OUR project

The Yeomen of the Guard is an opera written by Gilbert and Sullivan that premiered in 1888. Set during the 16th Century at the Tower of London and while maintaining the classic G&S humour, it is the darkest and most emotionally compelling of the duo's collaborations. We intend to highlight the central themes of unrequited love, alienation and moral complexity all while showcasing the beautiful music of one of Arthur Sullivan's most ambitious scores.

We are aiming to raise £1000 for our production at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York between the 12th-14th of March 2026!

Who are we?

The University of York's Gilbert and Sullivan Society was founded over 50 years ago and we are an award-winning, all-inclusive society dedicated to performing the works of Gilbert and Sullivan and a range of musicals.

Our previous show, Iolanthe!

Where will the money go?

All money donated will go towards doing this incredible show justice, from iconic beefeater costumes to a set designed to transport our audience to Tudor London. Any leftover funds will go towards hiring transport, printing programmes and posters, and much more to help keep our amazing society up and running for many more years!

A donation of £20 will get your name in our programme as a sponsor, £50 and you will receive a specially designed libretto poster. And if you donate £100 you receive the previous rewards PLUS we'll adapt the libretto to feature your name in our show!
