Hi! I've written a comedy play that I am taking up to Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August.

A short summary of MY project

I will be taking up my comedy play "Cockaigne Drinking Society" to Edinburgh Fringe this August where it will be performing from the 2nd to the 23rd on alternating nights at Willow Studio, Greenside@Riddle's Court. To make this happen, we need funds to help with planning, registering, and venue hire.

Who are WE?

I am an MA student at the University of York eager to work in arts management and writing. This play will let me get my foot into the industries and develop my career! I have written and directed many plays before but never have I written and directed one at the Edinburgh Fringe, one of the most prestigious arts festivals in the world! My theatre company, Pique Theatre, will be taking two shows up to the Fringe, but "Cockaigne Drinking Society" is my writing.

OUR story

“It's the week before the Cockaigne High School drinking society fundraiser and something's gone terribly wrong - if only everyone could agree on what that something was: Was it that the wrong band was booked? Was the escaped murderous convict stalking the place?…or was it the Tesco's meal deal on sale? "Cockaigne Drinking Society is a satirical farce that explores the most troublesome politics of the world over: Student committees!

The show Cockaigne Drinking Society is a unique idea for a comedy play, and so I want to see it performed as great as possible.

The Edinburgh Fringe is often a daunting place to take a show, but the benefits will be amazing for my future as a creator.

Where will the money go?

  • What will you spend the funding on if you hit your minimum?

If we reach our minimum, we will be able to pay for registration fees, publicity (e.g. flyers and posters), and basic living costs.

  • Where will the money go if you hit your full target?

If we reach our full target, we will be able to reduce company fees for all the cast and crew which will ease financial stress for all involved. Accommodation is usually the most expensive part of a show at the Edinburgh Fringe, but we have some very cheap accommodation thanks to our director sorted. The real cost comes from the venue hire. The venue hire will be paid for by cast and crew being charged a company fee to do the show (7 people each paying £500), and so if we reach out target, we will be able to reduce these company fees massively and help those students who are more financially constrained.

  • What will you do with extra funds if things really take off and you raise more than your target?

We will be able to remove company fees altogether and all involved will be able to attend without paying anything extra.

  • Breakdown of costs:
Venue hire (10 days): £2500.

Publicity (Flyers and poster): £74.

Registration fees: £250.

Basic living costs and contingencies for three weeks: £176.
