We are a team of staff members from the School of Physics Engineering and Technology (SPET) at the University of York, taking part in the Great York Walk 2024. Here is a list of the team members and the distances they are planning to walk:
- Andrew Chadwick: 25miles/40km
- Frank Stevens: 25miles/40km
- Helen Sharples: 25miles/40km
- Rohan Kakade: 6.25miles/10km
- Sinuo Feng: 25miles/40km
We are taking part in this event to raise money for Mentally Fit York (See further details below). Here is a statement from Frank in why he is taking part:
For much of my life I have found that walking long distances (often with four-legged friends) has been beneficial to my mental health. I see this event as an opportunity to use the act of walking, which has been so helpful to me, as a means of raising money that will help to improve the mental health of others.
Please do give generously! Further updates about our preparation for, and progress on the day itself will be added here in due course.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We are taking on The Great York Walk walking event that will help to transform mental health by raising funds for Mentally Fit York at the University of York.
In the UK, up to one in four adults and one in ten children will experience a mental health problem each year. These statistics need to change.
Please donate anything you can to help our target and improve mental health in York and beyond! 🙂 (P.S. Follow the link if you want to find out more about the walk and the cause).
about mentally fit York
Our walk will be in aid of Mentally Fit York, which will promote good mental health on a local, national and international scale. Your support will be used to fund on the ground initiatives and the latest groundbreaking research.
This could include 24/7 mental health support for York students, Mental Health Nursing Scholarships, and research projects to further our understanding of mental health issues and the barriers to accessing support services. Your support will contribute to a range of initiatives and research projects which are decided by an expert panel of mental health and wellbeing researchers, practitioners and advocates.
