Following the success of Don Giovanni earlier this year, York’s Opera Society returns to The Grand Opera House this summer at 7pm on 20th June with Jules Massenet’s Cendrillon, to re-imagine this classic fairytale through the eyes of a WWII veteran! Directed, produced and performed solely by members of York University, this semi-professional production enables over one hundred students to gain vital experience in their various specialist fields.

As Head of Production, I am asking you on behalf of our cast and my team to support our production by giving a gift. The University's Opera Society enables aspiring young musicians to gain vital and rewarding performance experience in addition to furthering their musical and artisitc abilities.

 The cast and crew of Cendrillon consists of over one hundred students and by donating you will be directly supporting eachstudent. Furthermore your kindness will also allow us to share our love for Opera with a wider audience including students and community within the City of York and the surrounding areas. Your donations will be spent directly on our  production costs including the set and costume hire.  

The directorial vision of this innovative production aims to bring a whole new dimension to the well-known fairytale: alone in his bookshop, our soldier reads ‘Cinderella’ whilst reminiscing about his war time romance. Many soldiers have stories of lost romance but in a theatrical twist this soldier has found himself without his lover, alone in his bookshop with only his stories for company.
