why "The day of atonement?"
The Day of Atonement is based on the amazing Hungarian short story "Nincs bocsánat" by István Örkény. It tells the story of how a young man comes to terms with the fact that there are times where it is impossible to amend one's mistakes. After years of neglecting his father, one day he is taken to hospital. The young man attempts to make up for the lost time with his father in the last days of his life, but the damage to their bond is much too severe to be undone in a few short days. When his father dies, our protagonist faces the reality of never being able to make amends.
We have been lucky enough to be granted permission by the owner to the rights to Örkény's works to use the story for our project, and exhibit the film on festivals for the next three years.
Who are we?
Where will the money go?
We have been lucky enough to be granted permission to shoot at an amazing location in the heart of York, and the Department of Theatre, Film and Television supplies us with a brilliant digital cinema camera, lighting, sound and grip equipment, but there are other costs of production we need to cover. This is why we need your help. Here is a brief list of our expenses:
- Lens hire (we will be using the amazing Zeiss Super Speed Primes) - £480
- Catering - £190
- Expendables (gaffer- and camera tape, pens etc.) - £25
- Transportation - £50
- Heating (we will be shooting a mortuary, and we need our own heating) - £32
- Backup hard drives - £140
This totals to £917.
Our target, and what's beyond
We have set a minimum of £400 for the project, this is the cost of making the film without hiring lenses. But if we manage to reach £900, with the Zeiss lenses the film will have a much more cinematic look.
We need your help to help us realise this project. We have some great rewards for our supporters, definitely check them out - there is something in there for everybody!
Thank you very much for taking a look at our project, if you like what we are doing, please consider sharing this page!
