Hi! It's Annabel here and I'm taking part in York Marathon Month for Mental Health to raise funds for Mentally Fit York at the University of York!
On a personal level
I've just completed my first year at university and experienced the highs and lows of leaving home, moving to a new city and meeting new people. I've absolutely loved it but I would be lying to say it wasn't tricky. I've learnt how important it is to prioritise your mental health and reach out to the support around you. I've also realised just how many people struggle with their mental health on a daily basis.
For this reason, the money I raise will help fund the organisations that support York residents (including university students) in overcome their mental health battles as well as other wider projects. Thanks in advance :)
The process
Essentially, I'm going to complete a marathon over the course of the month of October. No, it's not as impressive as a full marathon I know! But alongside my studies that seems like an impossible goal and breaking down this challenge into lots of 5k runs would be more sustainable. Please donate anything you can to help my target and improve mental health in York and beyond! If you can't donate but want to help my personal mental health, feel free to give me chocolate to fuel these runs :) (P.S. If you want to find out more about York's Marathon Month and the cause you can do so here).
about mentally fit york
My marathon will be in aid of Mentally Fit York, which will promote good mental health on a local, national and international scale. Your support will be used to fund initiatives such as 24/7 mental health support for York students and research projects to further our understanding of mental health issues and the barriers to accessing support services.
Your support may also go towards providing suicide prevention training, Mental Health Nursing Scholarships or it could contribute to a range of other initiatives which are decided by an expert panel of mental health and wellbeing researchers, practitioners and advocates.
