Days 3-6 done!

Only one more to go...

Day 3

Miles: 1.58 (my daughter dictated both route and pace)

Time taken: 1 hour, 27 minutes (see above)

Route theme: The University of York's beautiful, heritage-listed campus, celebrating the literary achievements of our alumni.

Day 4

Miles: 4.67

Time taken: 1 hour, 37 minutes

Route theme: York's wonderful independent bookshops. I'll see you again soon!

Day 5

Miles: 0.00

Time taken: 27 minutes

Route theme: A walk not taken. Today I explored Andrew Marvell's wonderful poetry, and explored, in my imagination, the grounds of Appleton Hall, an important literary and historical landmark, sadly shut off from the public.

Day 6

Miles: 2.95

Time taken: 1 hour, 15 minutes

Route theme: York's printing history (with a reminder of how York English is celebrating and perpetuating York's printing past at Thin Ice Press).

Days 1 & 2 complete!

Day 1

Miles: 4.68

Time taken: 3 hours 14 minutes (we were walking with a four-year old!)

Route theme: York's literary history, with highlights include the Minster's Five Sisters Window, Wilkie Collins' loathing of Skeldergate, and the route of the York Mystery plays.

Day 2

Miles: 3.63

Time taken: 1 hour 45 (I wandered lonely as an &c, but stopped for photos and to declaim poetry at rocks)

Route theme: 'In praise of limestone'

I'll be writing up my routes so that others can follow them (virtually or otherwise). I also want to note that we're following social distancing guidelines very carefully. If there's any moment at which we feel we can't complete our walk responsibly, or might put others at risk, we will head home and find a way to make up the the miles safely.
