On 12 October, I will be participating in The Great York Walk - a 25-mile marathon walking event around our beautiful walled city - in order to raise funds for Mentally Fit York at the University of York. This is a cause very close to my heart: throughout my time as an undergraduate I struggled with anorexia and OCD and experienced firsthand what a lonely, desolate place university (or anywhere) can be when you are suffering from mental ill health.
My walk will be in aid of the Mentally Fit York Fund, which promotes good mental health both at the University and across the city of York. Your support will be used to fund initiatives such as mental health first aid, as well as research projects looking to further our understanding of mental health issues and the barriers to accessing support services. Your support may also go towards providing Mental Health Nursing Scholarships, helping to ensure that the NHS is equipped to deal with the increased demand for mental healthcare.
If I reach my funding target of £250, ten people will be able to receive mental health first aid training or it will be possible to support a Mental Health Nursing Scholar for about half a term. I would greatly appreciate donations of any size that can help make this happen (or if you could help spread the word about this campaign should you not be in a position to donate).
Many thanks for your support :-)
