NurSoc's Fundraising Walk For Future Mental Health Student Nurses At UoY

Here We go Again!

UoY Nursoc is raising funds by taking part in the Great York Walk 2022. It's taking place to support Mentally Fit York, which aims to improve mental health with groundbreaking research and on the ground initiatives, in York and beyond.

It's a Challenge!

The Great York Walk 2022 will take place in York on Saturday 28th May 2022 and has three set routes across largely flat terrain - a 40km route (25 miles), a 20km route (12.5 miles) and a 10km route (6.25 miles). Participation is open to everyone, including students and staff.

All of the routes will begin from the University campus at 8:30am (registration opens at 7:30am), and there will be a staggered start to the walk to avoid congestion along the beginning of the route. All participants will complete the initial 10km together before those walking the 20km and 40km routes continue on. The walk is fully guided.

The Great York Walk starts at the University, crossing Monk Stray, Bootham Stray, Clifton Ings, Hob Moor, Knavesmire, Fulford Ings and Walmgate Stray before heading back to the University campus. The exact route is still to be finalised, and further details will be shared with walkers closer to the event.

There's an Admin Fee - but we're Working on It!

For current students at the University of York the fee is £15.00 plus a £1.76 booking fee. But for UoY NurSoc Members, we are working on ways to cover this, either through our own funds or by making sad faces at possible funders and sponsors. My sad face really isn't very convincing, so please help with fundraising ideas, by walking or just by joining NurSoc.

10, 20 or 40km - Blimey!

I really want to see what it's like to walk 40km (25miles), as I've never gone that far before. But if you are able to join in, it would be great to have some fellow walkers and we all share the first 10km together.

And let's face it, the more contacts you have, the more we can raise together for Mentally Fit York and fund bursaries for future Mental Health Student Nurses who are often put off even applying to UoY, because of the ridiculous way Nursing degrees are financed (by me, and by you).

Please join in!

Thank you and I hope to see you at the start line - Andrew
