what's the global runway multicultural fashion show?
The Global Runway Multicultural Fashion Show is more than a runway. It's a mesmerising celebration of global elegance allowing students to freely embrace their heritage through fashion. It's a night celebrating diversity, unity and artistry. Each outfit tells a story with fabrics weaving together history, heritage and meaning.
Dedicated to creating platforms which celebrate racially marginalised communities, the fashion show uses the unifying power of cultural clothing to promote self-expression, innovation and creative artistry; student models come from a myriad of ethnic backgrounds for a vibrant celebration of cultural exchange and appreciation.
This year's theme is "Resistance through Existence" which is a statement of empowerment and resilience. The fashion show invites you to witness the beauty of diverse identities boldly claiming their space. This show is a fusion of cultural expression, revolutionary spirit and the relentless will to exist unapologetically.
But we need your support to bring this vision to life. By supporting this campaign you're not just funding a fashion show- you're helping us create a space where underrepresented cultures can shine and where fashion becomes a language of unity, pride and celebration.
2024 Multicultural Fashion Show The Tab Article
Who are we?
We are a group of BAME students at the University of York united by the vision of a platform showcasing multicultural beauty and diversity through fashion. This will be the third year of the fashion show and this year we are producing a documentary! After the fashion show, we will host a special screening of the documentary that captures the journey behind the scenes and highlights the importance of representation in the fashion industry. The documentary will provide an authentic glimpse into the creative process, personal stories of students involved and the impact this event has on the wider community. Your contribution will help bring this powerful project to life, and together we can continue to push for more inclusivity and diversity.

Where will the money go?
Documentary (£750)
- Documentary production (£150) - This goes towards engaging and collaborating with student talent for the documentary and fair remuneration for their contributions
- Food (£500) - We want this to be a vibrant, immersive experience- and no celebration of culture is complete without food! This portion of the budget will go towards hiring diverse food vendors for the screening of the event.
- Exhibition (£100) - For setting up a mini exhibition space at the documentary screening, including printing visual displays, displaying cultural artefacts and creating informative panels that complement the documentary's themes.
Decorations (£450)
- The ambience desired requires a beautiful curated space; from cultural motifs to lighting and stage design
- This portion of the budget will fund the decorations for the fashion show including a red carpet entrance, giving our models, designers and guests a moment to feel seen, valued and celebrated.
Ticket sales for the event will help further contribute to food for the documentary screening and fashion show decorations. Ticket sales are unable to fully cover these costs since they are mainly being used for the fashion show venue hire which is £1150.
Funding that exceeds £1200 will go towards launching the documentary through the MCFS magazine.
