Who are WE?
We’re the Pakistan Society (PakSoc) at the University of York, a student-led cultural society dedicated to celebrating Pakistani heritage, music, food, art, and identity. Our committee is made up of passionate students from all backgrounds who want to build unity, have fun, and share the richness of our culture with everyone – Pakistani or not we are open for everyone!
A short summary of our project
We’re raising £700 to fund a full year of exciting, inclusive, and unforgettable events for PakSoc 2025–26! From food festivals to cultural nights, dance workshops to open mic evenings – we’re celebrating culture, connection, and community on campus. More specifically, we hope to use this funding for our end of semester events. We aim to provide high quality food and a range of entertainment whilst maintaining the affordability and community feel that brings both Pakistani and Non-Pakistani students together within our society and wider community.
What are we doing and why?
We want to deliver a full year of bigger, better and bolder events that are affordable (or free!) for students, open to all, and truly memorable. We understand that university can be expensive for many students and want to make our events accessible to all. Previously, we have held end of semester formals and Iftaar dinners for under £10 per person, allowing more members to participate and attend our events and build our wider cultural community. Our events are not for PakSoc members only; we have successfully held a formal with ArabSoc, a games night with HinduSoc, multiple Iftaars and a sisters henna night with Islamic Society. Our outreach extends beyond Pakistani students, and your donations will help maintain and strengthen these cultural ties within the university.
Why it matters to us: Culture deserves a spotlight. University can be isolating – PakSoc gives students a place to belong.
Why it matters to you: Your donation helps fund events that bring joy, community spirit, and cultural appreciation to life on campus. You’ll be directly supporting student well-being, representation, and creativity.
If you’re not able to give money to help us succeed, please share this project with anyone you think would support us – on X, Facebook, LinkedIn, by email, telephone, in a chat over the fence or on your blog! We’d be thrilled if you could share it with everyone you know as we think it's a great idea, and the more people who know about it, the more likely we are to be able to reach our target. And we know we said you don't need to give money to help us, but we'd love it if you did! Please donate and help make this happen. Thank you.
