Aimed at bringing new, fun physics to everyone!

The Annual Physics Student's Colloquium

The University of York Physics Society is putting on a large conference on November 22nd aimed at the local community of York, as well as physics students around the country.  We aim to educate, inspire and enthuse our audience as they learn about various aspects of physics.

Physics needs to be shared: so much is going on in the world of academia that just doesn't reach the public, and that needs to change.  Last year we had 300 people to the event, from around the country, so we want to allow at least as many the chance of visiting this year.

So what do we need to fund?

Conferences are not cheap to run.  The money you give will be vital in allowing the event to happen.  The breakdown of costs is given below:

-Speakers fees and expenses: £850

We have invited three external speakers at the event: Professor Wade Allison (Oxford), Professor Mike Payne (Cambridge)  and Dr Jon Purdy (Bradford).  They give their services free, but we need to cover their travel, food and accommodation costs.

 -Audio Visual Hire: £150

In order to get as many people in to see the lectures as possible, we're setting up an AV link to a second lecture hall next to the first.  This means that we need to hire some equipment to do so.

-Refreshments: £500

Ideally, we want to put on a buffet lunch for attendees, with drinks available throughout the day.  We will work closely with the campus catering for this, as food is an extremely large part of anyone's day!

We can only stage this event with your help:

So please get involved with us to share the fascination of Physics by giving a gift today.

We’ve put together a great set of rewards which will ensure that you get the best of the event as well as our thanks.

You can also help by sharing this page with others, we would be eternally grateful.   Thank you!
