OUR project
What's funnier than Death? Help us realise our comedic vision, in our Group Student Television Project When Death Comes Knocking. We're aiming to raise £2500 for this eccentric studio production about the Grim Reaper living in a flat share, but to do this we need your help, and any donation you are able to give will go a long way in making our vision a reality.
THE TEAM
We're an enthusiastic team of Third Year Film and Television Production students at The University of York who are passionate about storytelling. We're interested in using this medium to create a space where we can explore typically dark topics in a comedic light. Developing this idea as a team so far has been such an enjoyable experience, bouncing ideas off one another and working within our departments to ensure this we can do this story justice. It's been a complete collective effort and we're so excited to get the opportunity to share it with you all. Your donations can bring our creative ideas to life, we look forward to having you join us on this journey.
The Story
Over the course of two episodes the story will follow Violet as she struggles to adapt to her new living situation with her new roommate, none other than Death himself, or as he's also referred to; the Grim Reaper. Death as a topic, isn't something that many would address in a comedic tone, this sitcom takes the view that Death doesn't always have to be spoken about in a serious or macabre way. Instead, this story will show the absurdities that come with living with Death day-to-day: his routines, his lack of understanding for common courtesies and housemate etiquette, and his surprising quirks.
By donating to this production you will help us take this outrageous concept, and transform it into a high quality multi-camera studio sitcom. With this money we will endeavour to do this through the use of sets, props, costume, talented actors, and more, every single one of your donations can make this possible.
Where will YOUR money go?
We're so grateful for any amount that you are able to donate. Below is a breakdown of how your generous donations will be spent.
Set Design - £800
A substantial amount of the budget will go towards set design and set dressing to make the story as convincing and immersive as possible. Your donations will go towards building, and furnishing our set in the Studio to construct a believable apartment setting.
Catering, Travel, and Accommodation - £800
This money will be used to support the dedicated cast and crew in the instance they require any accommodation, help in their commute, and of course food and drinks to keep everyone healthy and happy during rehearsals and shooting days.
Costume, Make-up, and Hair - £420
A crucial part of the budget will go towards building up the characters designs and aesthetics. Your money will help us, and the actors, convey the characters, especially ones as outlandish as Death, and portray them that much more successfully.
Contingency - £250
10% of our budget will be put aside should any issues arise, this way we are prepared and the production can continue to run smoothly!
Locations - £100
Our set is entirely built in one location, however, for any scenes that we wish to film outside of this set, we may need to pay for. These scenes will enrich the story, the world building, and make the overall show more entertaining having scope for varied locations.
Specialist Equipment - £80
In order to make the sitcom come to life, we may need to invest in some specialist equipment that can provide us with new opportunities in how we tell the story.
Consumables - £50
This could be colour gels for the DoP, more resources for the designer, or even for things as simple as gaffer tape and pens - you never know what you're going to need on a set; these consumables will be covered by this section of the budget.
