I NEED YOUR HELP!

I'm taking part in the Yorkshire Marathon 2023 to help students and academics displaced by conflict by raising funds for the York Sanctuary Fund at the University of York. For the past twenty years, I've had the great privilege of teaching history to hundreds of wonderful York students and seen what a transformative experience it was for them. While my experience and theirs is commonplace in the UK, conflicts like that in Ukraine deny many would-be students and their university teachers such experiences. Like the University of York, I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to access the education they need to realise their true potential. The need to help students and academics displaced by conflict has never been greater, but together, with your support, we can make a difference.

Please donate anything you can to help me reach (or even exceed) my fundraising target as this will help provide more York students, at-risk academics and Human Rights Activists the chance to thrive and to re-start a new phase in their lives. (P.S. Follow these links if you want to find out more about the Yorkshire Marathon or the York Sanctuary Fund).

About the York Sanctuary Fund

My marathon will be in aid of the York Sanctuary Fund, which provides support to asylum seeking and refugee students, academics and Human Rights Defenders from around the world.

The York Sanctuary Fund is the University of York’s practical response to ensure a realistic package of support to those seeking sanctuary, displaced by conflict, and fleeing war or persecution.

Your donations will support the Equal Access Scholarships, the Human Rights Defenders Programme at the Centre for Applied Human Rights (CAHR), the Council for At Risk Academics (CARA) Fellowships and emergency appeals.
