An update from Steve:

Here…We…Go!

Friday 20th June (5.00pm) I’ll be embarking on what’s going to be an extreme challenge for me. Six Peaks…in 48 hours!

Ben Nevis…Scafell Pike…Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa…Pen-y-Ghent…Whernside…Ingleborogh. I’m 54 years old..this really does need to be the last!

The first three: ‘The National Three Peaks’. Total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft)

The last three: ‘The Yorkshire Three Peaks’: Total walking distance is 24-miles (38.6km), and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent.

Total: 47 miles (75.6km) distance and total ascent of 4,649 metres (15,252ft)

If anyone fancies getting out of bed early, I’ll be starting the The Yorkshire Three Peaks at 6.00am on Sunday, 22nd June, from The Golden Lion Hotel, in Horton in Ribblesdale.

Here’s the why. It will be two years on 16th June since we lost Roudhan. Jo, Dylan and I have been fundraising and leaning into a fantastic scheme. Generation Research provides authentic paid studentship positions across disciplines in a range of technical and research projects, widening access to all university students in order to be inclusive and diverse in answering the question; who will our next generation of scientists be?

In Roudhan’s name, we have raised over £35,000 to help answer this question. Many of you have already given so far. The fund has been ring fenced and last year we funded our first student, in Roudhan’s name. This years’ studentship has been allocated.

We are now looking to try and nudge the total figure over the £40,000 mark, thank you for your support.

Thank you for reading and I’ll try and update regularly on socials how I am doing at the weekend.
