What is the Great York Walk 2019?
The Great York Walk 2019 is a fundraising event launched by the University of York in support of the 'Mentally Fit York' fund, aiming to change the future of mental health for everyone. The Walk will take place on Saturday 12th October 2019, stretching across the historic open strays of York and taking in some of the best countryside the city has to offer.
Who am I?
I am a 1st year BA Social and Political Sciences student at the University of York, a member of a political party and a Study Forum Helper at The Student Room.
WhAT AM I DOING?
I will be walking 10km around York on Saturday 12th October 2019 (let's us pray to the weather gods that the weather will be lovely) to help raise money to transform mental health at York and beyond for students, staff, alumni, and the local community alike. A 10km walk may not sound like a lot (I have hardly walked 10km in one go...) but this is the perfect challenge for me and I am excited about the the idea of transforming mental health in York and beyond!
Where will the money go?
The Great York Walk 2019 will be in aid of the Mentally Fit York Fund, which will promote good mental health both at the University and across the City of York. Your support might go towards providing Mental Health Nursing Scholarships, helping to ensure that the NHS is equipped to deal with the increased demand for mental healthcare and that our fantastic mental health nursing students don't have to choose between studying and putting food on the table. Or it may be used to fund initiatives such as Mental Health First Aid training for students, as well as research projects looking to further our understanding of mental health issues and the barriers to accessing support services.
