Dear Sponsors,
It's been a long time coming... But we're so pleased to say that it's finally here: the Long Boi Statue is ready to be unveiled.
At 9am on Thursday 26th September 2024, we'll be celebrating Long Boi's Life with the event of the year including:
- A live broadcast of the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Greg James, right here on campus
- The official reveal of the Long Boi statue
- Tributes, speeches and chances to share your own memories
- A chance to purchase your very own Long Boi memorabilia
This memorial project would not have been possible without the support of our incredible community, who have kept Long Boi's memory and legacy alive.
As a thank you, we've reserved the first batch of free tickets exclusively for donors.
If you donated to this fundraiser but have not received ticketing instructions, please email communications@yorksu.org for more information.
Live, Laugh, Longth,
Lewis
Dear sponsors,
I have egg-citing Löngthy news for you today! I can confirm we are now in a position to reveal sneak peek images of the quack-tacular memorial to our dearly beloved Long Boi!
It's been a journey of duck-termination to reach this stage, as we waddled through scoping work, planning applications, and general memorial design. Our sculptor, Neil, has been hard at work hand-carving our quack-star to life in the most magnificent way. His dedication and talent shine through in every feather, capturing Long Boi's spirit and essence with incredible precision.
I invite you to take a gander at these exclusive sneak peek images and witness the webbed beauty of His Royal Löngthness. Please note this is a mould and it is now getting cast in bronze!
More information about our unveiling ceremony will be made available to you in due course. Stay tuned for updates as we prepare to make a splash with this unforgettable tribute to our feathered friend!
With feathers of gratitude,
Pierrick
Dear sponsors,
I am writing to you today with a quacktastic update concerning the Long Boi memorial you have so kindly contributed to.
Over the past few months, we launched an open call to artists to submit proposals for design and installation of the memorial. The quality, originality and incredible Löngthiness of the proposals have been much appreciated and I would therefore like to thank all artists would took the time and energy to apply.
It was not easy deciding between the strong submissions we received, but I am happy to announce that a winner has been selected.
I can now confirm that we have chosen to commission the work from wildlife sculptor Neil R. Mason (neilrmason.com). Neil will be working to produce a bronze, life-sized statue of Long Boi to be installed on a plinth on campus (location TBC) in the new year.
I would like to thank all of you for your patience whilst we worked through the open call. I cannot thank you enough for making this project possible.
The memorial to His Royal Löngthness will be with us very soon - he may be long, but he will not be forgotten.
Pierrick
Dear sponsors,
I would like to personally thank you for your commitment to the Long Boi memorial. Together, we've really gone above and beyond the initial £2,000 goal and I'm sure we'll be able to get Long Boi a decent statue with the funds collected so that the sight of His Royal Löngthness can be enjoyed by all for a very long time.
We will be working on an open call-out to artists and deciding on the best statue for us to go with in the next few weeks. Building a statue takes quite a bit of effort, but I'm determined to see it up on campus as soon as possible.
In the meantime though, I will be processing all of your rewards and they will be with you shortly!
Thank you once again for your support. Long Boi would be proud.
Löngth Forever.
Pierrick
Dear sponsors,
We have now surpassed £3,000 raised for our Long Boi memorial!!
I want to say a personal thank you to each and every one of you who have contributed to the success of the fundraiser, no matter how big or how small your donation. This crowdfund would not have been a success without you.
Thanks to you, the fundraiser has attracted national attention! Keen observers will have seen it appear on television, in the press (BBC, York Press and Metro) and on television. This will no doubt give our fundraiser the boost it needs.
We still need your help though! There's still a long way to go (pardon the pun). The more money we raise, the better the quality of the statue we can obtain. After all, I think we can all agree that His Royal Löngthness deserves the very best.
So please, whatever you can do, whether it's sharing the fundraiser on social media, or asking fellow Boi stans to donate, every little bit helps!
Long Live Long Boi.
