John came to the University of York in 1964 when it was in its infancy. He helped to interview future students and staff for the Biology Department, which was yet to be built.
John will be remembered for his enthusiastic lecturing style, his support for Phd students in getting their careers started and for his own research, which he pursued for over fifty years.
He was head of the Department of Biology from 1984-1990, after which he became Deputy Vice Chancellor.
We would like to raise funds to enable a bright, but financially challenged, biology student to receive a York Futures Scholarship. This scholarship exists to support students who have to go through university without support from home and it provides them with opportunities that will enhance their postgraduate prospects.
£2,100 will enable a York student to access specialist advice and guidance and will make the difference that a student from a low-income family needs to succeed after University.
Thank You,
Jillian Currey and family
