Running and raising funds this Christmas for Mentally Fit York and Your Cafe

Let's see out 2020 by raising money for good causes - give today!

At York, we're determined to do as much as we can to help people who need it most at this time of year, which can be difficult for many without the constraints of the coronavirus pandemic and the inequalities that the pandemic has exacerbated.

To do this, over the last week of term, we're encouraging as many students as possible to don the Santa hats sent out to all living in University accommodation and to run a distance that challenges them in aid of two local causes which help students and those in the local community: Mentally Fit York and YourCafe.

Both funds tackle some issues which particularly come to light at this time of year: food poverty, food insecurity, loneliness, community and mental health and wellbeing. Anything you donate will help us to alleviate some of these strains and to make people's lives a little easier this Christmas.

Please donate anything you can. 100% of your gift will go directly to the causes, and with matchfunding provided by generous alumni and friends of York. Please give today.

Thank you!

How to join in:

Pop on a Santa hat and get out for some fresh air! Walk, run, hop or roll, as far as you can. You can go by yourself, or in your bubble, but please be responsible and respect social distancing guidance.

When you're out for walk/run/ramble, make sure to take a photo with your Santa hats on, tag @YorkSport1 (Instagram and twitter) and use #YorkSanta to share the festive spirit!

Mentally Fit York is a fund that promotes good mental health both at the University and across the city of York. Your support will fund the on-the-ground initiatives to improve mental health across the York community, as well as supporting the latest groundbreaking mental health research taking place at the University of York.

YourCafe tackles food waste and builds community across York by turning surplus food from supermarkets and turning it into tasty meals that communities can enjoy together. With each meal paid for on a 'pay what you feel basis', there's always seat at the table for those who need it. Since starting in 2015, Your Cafe have been able to put 51 tonnes of food to good use - enough to feed almost 80 people everyday for a year.
