Our story

OTTO (70s) is suffering from dementia and his daughter MEREDITH (40s) is planning on taking him on a trip to the seaside as it is somewhere they made many treasured memories. This plan is thrown into jeopardy when Otto’s health sharply declines forcing Meredith to sneak him out of the care home to fulfill the father's wish. While the plot centres around trying to help her father, the real story is Meredith’s need to accept that her father’s condition is not going to improve and that she can not continue to neglect her own happiness. While Meredith may never be prepared for the death of her father, she learns to enjoy the time she has left with him.

WHY THIS story?

Take Me to the Sea tells a personal story about loss, specifically the acceptance of forthcoming loss. It is a story driven by the high emotions of characters trying to find solace in moments of tragedy. Loss is something that so many have to deal with, and deal with differently, so Take Me to the Sea aims to provide a platform to question whether we are right to hold or should we be more willing to let go.

“Genuine tragedies in the world are not conflicts between right and wrong. They are conflicts between two rights” - Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel

Where will the money go?

  • Special equipment- Take Me to the Sea aims for beautiful visuals (and sounds) to compliment the emotional journeys of the characters. This starts with locations, which need to be viable, flexible, and most importantly safe. To achieve this, we will have to hire extra equipment so we can get the shots we want without putting anyone at risk.
  • Travel- We need your donations to take us to the sea! Traveling to location tells a more personal story.
  • Design and props- It is important that every aspect of design, including set, costume, hair&makeup, creates characters that are true to life and lived-in environments which demonstrate the wealth of life experience they have acquired, evolving along with the characters emotional states.
  • Locations- Your kind donations help us to secure amazing locations, which takes us halfway there already!
  • Catering- We want our performers to feel comfortable, allowing them to give their best performance, not to mention the crew as well!
  • Contingency- We understand that complications can arise, but with contingency money set aside we will be able to adapt to all eventualities.
