The Great York Walk - Doin it for the Carbs

🌎🚴‍♂️🏊‍♀️ 🏔 🚶‍♀️🥾THE GREAT YORK WALK 🥾 🚶‍♀️ 🏔 🏊‍♀️🚴‍♂️🌎

We are a group of six friends who all at one point were associated with York uni and now live across Yorkshire-Scotland and Ireland. We teamed up under the very descriptive name “Doin it for the Carbs”, to complete the Great York Walk for Mentally Fit York. The task is a virtual 12-week step challenge that runs between the 10th of May and 31st of July.

Mentally Fit York is York uni’s new fund to support mental health initiatives in the city's communities and beyond including 24/7 online support for students, supporting mental health nursing scholarships and data collection for mental health research. University can be a very challenging time and some of us really benefited from having a mental health support team on site to get us through homesickness, difficult times with family and the demanding course work and exams periods. Covid restrictions are easing in some parts of the world, while others are still badly suffering. Looking after our mental health has never been more important. Some of us are still working from home, some are going through a rough patch with our physical or mental health.

We are being inspired by this challenge to get out more, let it be a short walk with friends, a day’s hike in the beautiful Scottish/Irish/North Yorkshire landscape, or a drunken stumble back home :D, it has helped us all with adjusting back to life as we come out of the pandemic. The Great York Walk already completed the original route to walk 25,000 miles around the globe. We are now doing a new route of over 56,000 miles across six continents!!! We are counting every step to finish in the top 25 teams (out of 166) by the end of the challenge. Please help us reach this goal and most importantly, support Mentally Fit York.
