Our project:
We're trying to raise £1,000 to get our teams down to Warwick for the Inter-University Tournament this year.
Who are We?
Currently, we have 50 active team members competing across 3 men's and 2 women's teams within BUCS and York & District Leagues. This is the largest and most successful our club has ever been, with our women's 1st team winning their BUCS league and being promoted last season, and our Mens 1st team winning the conference cup against teams up to 2 DIVISIONS HIGHER!!!
Our membership has over DOUBLED since last year! We added an extra mens and women's team for the current academic year due to demand at trials, however due to lack of funding we are unable to enter these teams in York & District leagues.
our story
This would be a fantastic opportunity for the club. For the first time ever we entered players into sending BUCS individuals this December, with half of the players winning their first round matches, being strong competitors within the main draw. The Inter-University Tournament offers a range of draws, more suited to the standard of our club, enabling almost all members to be eligible!
Despite this great opportunity, it would cost approx £150 per member for entry fees, travel and accommodation for the weekend which may not sound a lot but isn't affordable for students, especially in light of the ongoing cost of living crisis. Hence, we were sent in this direction by the students union in attempt to fundraise for this event.
This competition would be important not only for the club, but for the university, hi-lighting our presence and sporting ability, actively competing against the top sporting universities. Attending events like this will just help us grow and grow the club, being able to access more grant funding, increase membership and overall increase the standard of squash at York.
Where will the money go?
- if we reach our minimum, the money will cover travel costs for all members taking part
- if we reach our target, the money will help subsidise accommodation for the weekend
