Who will honour us When It's Over?

OUR FILM

Please help us raise £2,000 to help us create a short documentary film about a funeral celebrant, as we seek to combat the macabre and reductive stereotypes around persons working in the funeral industry.

Meet the crew!

We are a joyful team of five students in their final year studying Film and Television Production, and the only team this year creating a documentary film.

Read below to learn about what we are most excited to explore in our film, When It's Over.
  • Ada Collett - Director      Ada is most excited to answer the questions she didn't know she had. What seemed to be a fairly straightforward subject initially, she is learning is just the tip of the iceberg.
  • Katie Rose Abegglen - Producer      Katie Rose is keen to better understand how working with grieving persons effects one's outlook on life.
  • Emily Bance - Director of Photography      Emily is most excited about learning about alternative options after people pass, and how she can best capture and reflect this through cinematography.
  • Mackenzie Scott - Sound Engineer     Mackenzie wants to explore alternative funerals in the film, particularly how they differ from traditional ceremonies.
  • Shreyas Raghavan - Editor

OUR "why"

Our film was inspired by a question:  What kind of a person devotes their life to death?

The crew of When It’s Over hope to create a beautiful and interesting documentary project this year, and answer this question. It is no secret that it is hard to talk about the end of life, especially the plans we make for our loved ones. How do we honour the lives of the people that mean the most to us? This a question that our subject strives to answer every day. A funeral celebrant is not a mortician, or even a funeral director. They have taken on the unique duty of sharing the stories of the dead in an untraditional way – a way that reflects the life of that person.

In this film, we want to tell the celebrant’s story and explore what it is like to live a life working so closely with death. The work is hard, spending your days writing eulogies and getting to know people you will never get to meet through the memories of the people they loved. To be a funeral celebrant you must have a passion for life and a heart to withstand sorrow.

Who is this person? Our film intends to share their story with the world.

Help us share the stories, not of the dead, but of the people who celebrate their lives.

Help us shed light on a profession we will all turn to for help, when it's over.

We are looking to raise 2,000 pounds to create this important film.

Please consider donating to our project, because we can’t do it without you.

Where will the money go?

As we are a student production, our goal may seem like a lot - but we are determined to take care of our crew and create a professional film. We can't do this without your support.
