Raising funds for Mentally Fit York and York Foodbank

A message from york sport

We hope you are all well, staying active and enjoying what the team at York Sport have been delivering during this strange time.

We would like to thank you for joining our virtual York Sport fitness classes, the numbers getting involved have been fantastic and thank you for all the positive messages we have received.

Our aim when we started the free online class programme during the first lockdown was purely to engage as many of you as possible and to help keep you active while staying at home and working out.

This remains the aim during the second national lockdown and it's great that the classes have been so well received.

Such is the community spirit at this time that some people have been asking if they can make a contribution for the classes they have enjoyed.

If anyone wishes to make a donations, we will welcome any voluntary contributions (however big or small) in support of York Foodbank and Mentally Fit York and in doing so collectively we can help them to help people across the local areas who really need support right now.

Can we stress that there is absolutely no obligation to make any contributions and that the classes remain free for all. However, if you do want to do so you can click the link below to donate and find out more about our chosen charities and what they do.

Together we are trying to make a difference and from all of us at York Sport please stay in workout and stay safe.

what it's all in aid of

Mental ill-health doesn't discriminate and whether we're experts in mental health or not, we should all be able to feel safe and supported in talking to each other about our mental health.

Mentally Fit York is a new fund to promote good mental health both at the University and across the city of York. Your support will fund the on-the-ground initiatives to improve mental health across the York community, as well as supporting the latest groundbreaking mental health research taking place at the University of York.

York Foodbank is a charity with a Christian ethos which started in 2012 as an initiative of churches in York in response to growing numbers of people living in poverty and needing support. York Foodbank now runs out of four food distribution points which open on different days across the city (Tang Hall, Huntington, Acomb and the City Centre). The aim is to meet the needs of those in our local community who are experiencing a crisis situation, to give people hope, practical help, and a brighter future through additional signposting services. We want to make sure that no one in our local community has to go hungry, but we need your help to make this happen. Any gift of financial support or donation of food will make a real difference in helping us to ensure not only that people receive emergency food, but that they also receive help to address the underlying cause of their crisis.
