WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Three members of York's University Executive Board...

  • John Robinson (Pro-Vice Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Students)
  • Joss Ivory (Director of Human Resources)
  • Brian Fulton (Dean of the Faculty of Sciences)

...are taking on The Great York Walk, a 25 mile marathon walking event in order to raise funds for Mentally Fit York at the University of York.

Brian says, "Really looking forward to raising money for a good cause."

Joss says, "I've signed up for this because it's completely the right thing to do. I just hope my body can keep up with my aspiration. I feel passionate about mental health; any of us can be affected. I'm proud to be part of the University of York's commitment to this important cause."

John says, "It's a privilege to participate. Such a worthy cause. Pictures from my practice walk a couple of weeks ago --- https://www.flickr.com/photos/robbophotos/albums/72157710836539217. Hope the weather's just as good on 12 October."

To help promote good mental health both at the University, the city of York and beyond, the University has set up the Mentally Fit York Fund. Your support of our walk, and this fund,  will be used to fund initiatives such as mental health first aid, as well as research projects looking to further our understanding of mental health issues and the barriers to accessing support services.

Your support may also go towards providing Mental Health Nursing Scholarships, helping to ensure that the NHS is equipped to deal with the increased demand for mental healthcare as we start to become more comfortable in including discussions of mental health when we talk about our health and wellbeing in our communities.

If we hit our target, 30 people will be able to receive mental health first aid training or we'll be able to provide almost half a year's support for a Mental Health Nursing Scholar - please donate anything you can to help us make this happen!

If you'd like to join us on the walk, there are still a few limited places available. You can find out more and sign up here.
