We have the talent, now we just need the equipment.

Nouse is the oldest society on campus and this year we're celebrating fifty years of quality student journalism. We want to raise £2,000 so we can replace our outdated equipment and win the 2015 Guardian Student Media Award for publication of the year.

Nouse has become one of the best student newspapers in the country through fifty years of hard work. We've held the University to account on their investments, pushed YUSU to change the way societies are run, and uncovered a privacy breach which saw the CVs of over 600 people, including York students, uploaded online. With your help we could continue to make a difference. We've been award-winning for the past fifty years so it's apt that our fiftieth year should end with some recognition. We were extremely proud to win runner-up for Student Publication of the Year at the 2014 Guardian Student Media Awards but it would be amazing to go one step further and claim the top prize next year. With a strong team of talented writers and editors from every discipline, all we need is your help to provide them with the equipment to succeed.

What we need your support for:

We'd love to be able to buy some dictaphones for recording interviews. In the past, we've interviewed a range of high-profile people, including Sam Smith and Mel Giedroyc, but our writers have had to rely on their own resources because we lack a lot of basic equipment. It'd also be great to get an office camera for covering university sports and events such as London Fashion Week so we can get even more people involved in Nouse. We'd like to update the software (InDesign and Photoshop) we use to make the paper as well. At the moment, it's extremely outdated, which slows us down and causes a lot of unnecessary stress during Production Weeks. Of course, if we reached our full target we would love to be able to replace our office computers altogether!

Where the money will go:

  • Two dictaphones (2 x around £50 each): £100

  • Camera: £400

  • Twelve months' subscription to updated Adobe software bundle (£47 a month): £564

  • Two office mini-Macs (2 x £399) and monitors (2 x £69.99): £937.98

Worked for Nouse as Arts Editor and for YU Radio as photographer (Pink Floyd gig at Derwent). Happy days but no equipment just a borrowed camera. Free press so important as is a slick operation, so good luck Nouse - hope you reach the maximum target.

Robert Middleton - donation made x

Good luck in raising the funds.
